Parents,
The words listed below are called sight words. Please practice these words at home with your child by playing games with them, pointing them out in his/her reading and writing activities, and locating them in text you encounter in your daily lives.
Parents,
Below you will find different sites with many activities that you and your child will enjoy. Have fun!   Cindy Jones

Activities
We are working with the vowels. We are hunting for vowels in every word.  The children are learning when there are two vowels in a short word, the first vowel does all the talking and shouts out its name, and the second vowel goes to sleep. Long "a" is marked with the macron.
Long a as in  ape
Long e  as in  eagle
Long i   as in ice
Long o  as in  overalls
Long u  as in  unicorn or
Long u  as in  suit

When there is only one vowel in a short word, and it comes at the beginning or middle of the word, the vowel will have the short sound and is coded or marked with a breve.

Short a  as in alligator
Short e  as in elephant
Short as in igloo
Short o  as in octopus
Short u  as in umbrella
